Darcy Etkin grew up in Boonville, NY, and moved to Gloversville in 2018. In her youth, she was a regular patron of Erwin Library in Boonville - a large stone building with turrets and cubbies. She has used and toured libraries in many cities and is proud to have such an amazing library in Gloversville. She will do everything possible to make sure that it continues to thrive.
My name is Susan Shrader and I have been a resident of Gloversville since 1978. My husband, Michael, and I raised our three sons, Scott, Matthew, and Steven, here in Gloversville, as well. I attended college at SUNY Oswego, where I earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. In 2015, I retired from the Gloversville Enlarged School District, after teaching 6th grade, 3rd grade, 2nd grade, and preschool for a total of 37 years.
In the area of community service, I was a member of various Gloversville PTAs for over 17 years, holding offices such as President, Treasurer, Central Council Representative, and Central Council President, as well as many committee chairmanships. I also spent several years assisting Cub Scout Pack 6 as a Tiger Cub Leader and assistant Pack Leaders. Since 1978, I have also been an active church member, first at Sacred Heart and then at The Church of the Holy Spirit. I am a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, choir member, and – in recent years – Choir Director. I have chaired a Friday’s Table team for 23 years, have been on the Emmaus Team (a retreat for students making their Confirmation) for 22 years, teach church school for 3rd and 4th grades, organize music, and sing at funerals.
I have served as a Trustee for almost 5 years, serving on the Finance Committee, the Building and Grounds Committee, and chairing the Personnel Committee. During this time, the Trustees were able to hire a new Library Director and several new staff. Our programming has blossomed, not just in house, but with outreach programs, as well. I would like to continue to serve as a Trustee for the Library to help insure its continued success in serving the Gloversville community on all levels: youth, teens, young adults, mature adults, and seniors. It is a gem in our community and I want to see it continue to thrive and expand its services.
My name is Richard Carlson and I am seeking to continue serving on the Gloversville Public Library Board of Trustees. I have been a member of the Board of Trustees since September, 2019. My wife and I reside at Peck Lake, in the Town of Bleecker, where we have owned property for 30 years and where we have lived full-time for the past 17 years.
From 2011 to 2017, I was a member of the Board of Education of the Gloversville Enlarged School District. Prior to my retirement in 2003, I was a civil engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation for 34 years. I currently chair the Library’s Building and Grounds Committee, and I also serve on the Budget and Finance Committee.
I want to serve the community that, over the years, has enriched my life and continuing on the Board of Trustees provides such an opportunity. The experience I gained from my time on the Board of Education gave me an appreciation of the important role the Gloversville Public Library plays in the education of the children of our community. In the time I have served on the Library Board of Trustees I have also become increasingly aware that the services and resources provided by the Library benefit people of all ages by nurturing the pursuit of lifelong learning in all of us. In recent years the Library has been reconsidering the ways it serves our community and in response it has adjusted many of its existing programs and has initiated a number of new services. We are continuing to look for additional ways to better serve our community, and I would like to continue to be a participant in these efforts. I thank you for your consideration.
