Celebration approaches

There are a few days let before the 8th annual Celebration.

If you have not made your reservation for the brunch there are still a few more openings.  Brunch reservation form.

Tickets for the beautiful raffle baskets will be on sale through close of business on Saturday (Oct. 18).  $1 each or 6 for $5.  They can also be viewed on the Library's Facebook page; photos, albums, 2014 Celebration baskets.

Last but not least is the silent auction for signed copies of late Glovesville native Joe Pesico's titles My American Journey co-written with Colin L. Powell, two boxed editions autographed by both men and Roosevelt's Centurions: FDR and the Commanders He Lead to Victory in World War II.  Bids maybe placed at the Library before or on the day of the brunch.

Friends' Fall Booksale

The book and bakesale will start on Tuesday, October 14 at 4pm with the $1 early bird admission.  The sale will continue on Wednesday, October 15 from 10am-6pm.

If you have books you would like to donate, please wait until after the fall sale to bring them in.  The Friends' volunteers are diligent about sorting and organizing donations for ease of shopping.  Unfortunately, they will not have time to add new donations to the shelves for this sale or space to store them.

The 8th Annual Friends Celebration has begun; the baskets are on display.

This year the lobby and Children's Room are 30 baskets. Animals, spas, movies and lots of food are waiting to go home with you in October.

Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5.  Tickets will be on sale at the front desk through Saturday, October 18th. The raffle will take place 10/19; you need not be present to win.

Friends' Celebration

2014 marks the 8th year of the Friends' Celebration events.  In line with this year's theme, 'Celebrating Friends,' the date of the Celebration has been moved from a Sunday in September to October 19, the beginning of National Friends Week.  The 19th is still a Sunday, the venue is still the Library, and the food will still be served buffet style.

The baskets will also remain, but will be set out in September rather than October.  If  you are interested in donating a basket for the raffle, leave word with a staff member at the Library.  There is even a committee who will shop for you if you would like to donate funds for a basket.

Summer time

Summer is here and with it comes summer programming at the Library.

This year's theme revolves around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math.)

For the kids we have "Fizz, Boom, Read." Teens will "Spark a Reaction." And the adults can explore "Literary Elements."

Better yet, come in and sign up for the reading clubs.  Give-aways and prizes for reading are available.

Some children's programs require reservations and will fill up soon.  Click on "Events" to the right to access the online registration form for those specific workshops.



Absentee Ballots

Absentee ballots are available for voters unable to vote in person on the Library's levy proposition and trustee seats.  Election is Tuesday, May 6 from 11am-8pm.  Unless already on the Fulton County Board of Election's absentee voter list, a voter must first complete an application requesting an absentee ballot and return the application to the Library to receive an absentee ballot.  All absentee ballots are due by 8pm on May 6th to be included.

Library Vote

On Tuesday, May 6 the voters of the Gloversville Enlarged School District will go to the polls to approve the 2014-15 tax levy and elect trustees.

The proposed levy increase is $5,903, which is within the 2% tax cap.

A public hearing on the budget will take place at the Library on Tuesday, April 15th at 6:30pm.

Trustees running for re-election are Jay Ephraim and Robin Lair.  There will be one write-in spot on the ballot.

Polling time change for this year:  11 AM-8 PM.  In previous years the polls have been open from 12 Noon-9 PM.
