- Colorful pictures grab the reader's attention.
- Pictures help tell the story through visual action.
- Following the action can help introduce new words.
- Following the action demonstrates the beginning, middle, and end of a story.
- Comics and graphic novels include characters, themes, settings, points of view, symbolism, conflict and resolution. All elements of a good story.
- Help kids understand inference, "the ability to draw a conclusion about something unknown from facts or evidence." They can predict what will happen in the story based on what they have been told already.
- Not all comics and graphic novels are fiction.
- Comics and graphic novels are also art.
